Drift dives
Drift diving means the pass carries you: you enter on the ocean side and the incoming current takes you through the pass towards the lagoon, amid the life that concentrates there.
It is a dive you earn: divers who wish to do a deep and/or drift dive first complete a reef or outer-wall dive limited to 20 metres, so we can validate your comfort together.
A drift dive can never be guaranteed
Drift dives in the pass remain entirely dependent on the ocean conditions observed on site. A heavy swell, in particular from the south, can change the conditions in the pass and make some drift dives temporarily impossible to organise. The final decision always rests with the RDC team, according to the conditions of the day.
How does it go?
- The current does the work
You enter on the ocean side: the incoming current carries you through the pass.
- Experience is checked first
Drift dives already done, where, how many: the information is crossed with your level and the expected conditions.
- The slot follows the tide
Coefficient 40 to 60: moderate. 60 to 80: intermediate. 80 to 100: significant. The higher it gets, the more careful the approach.
Good to know
- Never a first dive directly into the pass
You start on the outer reef; entering the pass is progressive.
- A dive you earn
A Refresher dive first, if your level or experience calls for it.
- Dive times follow the tides
Our dive times change every day with the tides, so we can adapt each dive to the best possible conditions.
